Working Smallholding
Today, we farm the grounds of Croan House as a smallholding with rare breeds of animals and poultry to provide as much of our own food and drink as possible. Guests in our holiday homes are welcome to visit the walled gardens and the animals in their paddocks.

Meals delivered to your cottage
 Evening meals, packed lunches and dishes for a special occasion can all be prepared and delivered straight to your holiday cottage. Have a look at our Croan Cottages Cuisine page for more details.

Croan holiday homes Ireland

Large Black Pigs, Cattle, Chickens, Ducks, Goats, Sheep, Geese and even Peacocks are kept in check by the ever-enthusiastic Bella the Dog and Poppy her assistant. Guests in our holiday homes can visit with the animals.

Even the Pheasants enjoy self catering accommodation at Croan, as they often drop by from the Castle Morres estate (next door) to share the Chicken's and Duck's meals.

Our Smallholding

Croan's walled garden and paddocks are being restored to support our smallholding and we hope to be able to raise and grow even more of our own food as work continues. We also hope to be able to offer our holiday guests some of the produce to enjoy in their cottage.

Behind the holiday cottages we have planted an orchard of Apple, Plum, Pear and Cherry trees has been planted and includes many rare old varieties native to Kilkenny and this part of Ireland. This we hope will provide enough fruit to let us produce our own cider and jam.

We also make of the wild produce from the Hedgerow and the woods which border the cottages. Pheasant and Rabbit are in abundance and even the humble Nettle is put to use in the making of delicious Nettle Beer.

One of our rare Large Black Sows, called May. May recently had a litter of 10 piglets.

Guests at our holiday cottages really seem to enjoy having the animals around.

Pet Friendly Holidays

We know – pets are part of the family and pets need holidays too!

We have designated some of our self catering cottages "pet friendly" so you can bring your house trained pets to your holiday home with you.

Your house trained pets are welcome to come stay with you at Croan Cottages and there is no extra charge for their stay.

The location of our self catering cottages.
The holiday Homes at Croan Cottages are in the south of County Kilkenny in the South East of Ireland and this lovely area is rich in places of interest to visit. These places include the Castlemorres Demesne (virtually next door), medieval Kilkenny City (15 miles) with its historic castle, and the beautiful monastic settlements of Jerpoint Abbey (3 miles) and Kells Priory (3 miles). There is a craft workshop trail to explore and Waterford Crystal is 20 miles away.

Our Kilkenny holiday homes cottage accommodation is close to the villages and towns of Kells, Dunamaggin, Knocktopher, Kilmaganny, Ballyhale, Callan, Hugginstown, Inistigoe, Thomastown, Stonyford and Gowran. We are approx. 20 minutes by car from Kilkenny and Waterford city is just 45 minutes from your holiday home.

Kilkenny is a part of Ireland that is rich in places of interest to explore. Ireland's finest medieval city and its arts and crafts capital, Kilkenny, is just 20 minutes from your holiday home by car.

There are a range of craft trails, historic gardens and cultural activities to enjoy close to our holiday homes and the Dunbrody emigrant ship (New Ross) and Waterford Crystal are close by, as are the historic towns of Kells and Cashel.
